Canada’s Piano Hero Performs with the Calgary Civic Symphony, Calgary’s best kept musical secret!
CALGARY, AB, January 25, 2016 — Lights! Camera! Music! Join the Calgary Civic Symphony for a thrilling afternoon of movie soundtrack music, featuring Canada’s Piano Hero, Thomas Yu. “Scintillating Soundtracks” will take place at 2:30 PM at the Jack Singer Concert Hall on Sunday, February 28th, 2016.
The Civic Symphony is proud to feature Thomas Yu who is a local Calgarian and when he’s not at the piano, you can find him chairside in his periodontic practice. Mr Yu will perform Sergei Rachmaninov’s iconic Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini, featured in “Somewhere in Time.” The concert also includes memorable themes from “Amadeus,” “Gone with the Wind”, “Lord of the Rings,” “Harry Potter,” Star Wars,” and much more.
Since winning the 2006 International Competition for Outstanding Piano Amateurs (Paris), periodontist Thomas Yu has become one of the most recognized amateur concert pianists in the world. He continues to delight audiences worldwide, having performed in the Berliner Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall, BBC Hoddinott Hall, and more.
The Calgary Civic Symphony is Calgary’s volunteer orchestra and was founded in 1975. It is often confused with Calgary’s other professional orchestra. Over the years it has swelled to over 80 musicians. With an interesting diversity in professions, its members come together each week to rehearse complex orchestral works. Under the baton of Artistic Director and Conductor Rolf Bertsch, the Symphony shapes and polishes performances that are truly brilliant!
Concert tickets are $25 (adults), $18 (students/seniors), and children six and under are free. Group discounts are available. Tickets are available by calling the Arts Commons Box Office at (403) 294-9494 or online at www.artscommons.ca.
