The Calgary Civic Symphony presents Pinchas Zukerman & Amanda Forsyth in 2015/16 Season
Calgary, AB – March 5, 2015 – The Calgary Civic Symphony is pleased to announce that world-renowned violinist Pinchas Zukerman and cellist Amanda Forsyth will be performing as soloists with the orchestra. The concert will take place on November 8th, 2015.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring these two truly world-class artists to our 40th anniversary season,” says Music Director Rolf Bertsch. “And they will not only perform the Brahms Double Concerto with the Calgary Civic Symphony but also teach masterclasses for Calgary’s talented young musicians. It will be an exciting time!”
Pinchas Zukerman has remained a phenomenon in the world of music for over four decades. His extensive discography contains over 100 titles and has earned him 2 Grammy awards and 21 nominations. In addition to completing his 16th and final season as Music Director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa, he has performed over 100 worldwide performances in 2014/15 season.
Amanda Forsyth became the youngest principal ever selected by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra—a post she occupied for six years before she was appointed principal cello of National Arts Centre Orchestra in 1998. She has performed and recorded as a soloist and won a Juno Award in 1997 for her recording of her late father Dr. Malcolm Forsyth’s cello concerto Elektra Rising.
Formed in 1975, the Calgary Civic Symphony has now grown to over eighty musicians. They present five concerts as well as three school concerts per season. Their mandate is to introduce orchestral music to the community and inspire a life-long love of music in their audience.
This concert will also feature a new work by Calgary composer Allan Gordon Bell, commissioned for the occasion of the Calgary Civic Symphony’s 40th Anniversary.
The Calgary Civic Symphony’s complete 2015/16 season will be announced in May. For more information, please call (403) 670-5430 or visit www.calgarycivicsymphony.ca.
