The Calgary Concerto Competition (C3) is an annual event which was founded in 1981 by the Calgary Registered Music Teachers Association, the Calgary Piano Technicians Guild and the Calgary Civic Symphony. The competition is organized by volunteers who form the Board of Directors of the Calgary Concerto Competition (a registered non-profit society). This competition is open to all piano and instrumental students under the age of 18 studying with a Calgary music teacher. The competition is held yearly in February. Each participant is required to play from memory, the first movement of a concerto. Through the competition, the winners are selected by an impartial jury to perform with the Calgary Civic Symphony. The C3 Concerto concert showcases the talents of the winners of the competition. As well as giving them invaluable experience of rehearsing and performing with an orchestra, the C3 prepares them for competition at the National and International levels where performing with an orchestra is mandatory.
Where will our young soloists perform next? Time will tell, perhaps New York, Vienna, London?
