Message from The Conductor
Dear friends,
I want to take a moment to thank all the musicians and you, the audience, for making the Calgary Civic Symphony’s 2011-12 season, A Season of Colours, its most successful ever. It is remarkable what can be achieved through teamwork.
I am very pleased to invite you to experience our 2012-13 season, Kaleidoscope, which comes from Greek words meaning “beautiful” and “form” and is defined as “a constantly changing pattern or sequence of objects or elements”. How apropos!
We continue to present a wide variety of repertoire covering 278 years — from Bach’s great Concerto for Two Violins (1731) to Beethoven’s 6th, Sibelius’ 2nd, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, and Bramwell Tovey’s new trumpet concerto, Songs of the Paradise Saloon (2009). Our soloists, including Colleen and Alicia Venables and Adam Zinatelli, are some of Canada’s finest musicians. Kaleidoscope promises to be another brilliant year!
We look forward to seeing you!
Rolf Bertsch
